The Importance of Training in Tourism, Hospitality, and Events Management

In coordination with the Ministry of Tourism, the Events, Hospitality, and Tourism department at the British Academy in Lebanon (BAL), organized a seminar on The Importance of Academic Specialization and Training in the Tourism, Hospitality, and Events Industry.

General Director of the Ministry of Tourism Mrs. Nada Sardouk welcomed the participants and attendees at the Ministry of Tourism and focused on the role that the ministry and higher education institutions play in sustaining the Tourism and Hospitality sector, as well as the collaborative work that needs to be established between the higher education institutions and the Ministry.

Mr. Imad Raad, founder of Contagious, presented a session on the technical skills needed for touristic institutions’ security and safety measures. Dr. Mike Flynn, Senior Lecturer at Cardiff Metropolitan University (MUBS partner institution), headed a panel on the future prospects of this sector, particularly the future academic specializations needed in light of the technological advancements.

Finally, Dr.  Hatem Alamy, Chairman of the Board of Trustees at MUBS, discussed the University’s vision for the future of this sector and the academic developments the University is taking for the Events, Tourism, and Hospitality degrees. He concluded his speech with hopes that this event would mark the beginning of a collective platform between the tourism institutions and the University for the empowerment this sector in light of the recent political developments in the region.
