Credit Hours (cr.)

Credit Hour is the unit of measuring educational credit. It is usually based on the number of classroom hours per week throughout a term. Most courses have a weight of 3 credits, however, there are courses lower or higher credit values.

The academic year consists of 2 regular semesters (Fall & Spring) and a Summer Session. To be considered a full-time student you should register a minimum of 12 credit hours. Maximum number of credit hours that can be registered for in a regular semester is 18. Students may register a minimum of 6 credit hours and a maximum of 12 credit hours in the Summer Session.

Drop and Add

Students are allowed to modify their schedules without penalty during the Drop & Add Period of every semester (refer to Academic Calendar for exact dates).

Attendance

Attendance is required in all courses. Students who miss more than 30 % of the total number of sessions in a course will be AUTOMATICALLY DROPPED from their courses.

Missing midterm or final exams results in a zero grade except in extreme and exceptional cases and after filling in a Petition at the Student Affairs Office within a maximum of one week from the date of the exam.

Course withdrawal

A student may withdraw from a course without receiving an “F” grade if the withdrawal is completed before the published deadline.

Computation of the GPA (Grade Point Average):

The grade point average (GPA) is the average number of quality points earned per credit in all courses taken and are assigned grades A to F. The GPA is calculated by:

Multiplying the number of credits by the number of quality points assigned to the letter grade earned in each course.
Adding the number of quality points earned in all courses.
Dividing the total number of quality points by the total number of credits attempted.

Example: The GPA for the following five courses would be:
