By MUBS Communications Dept., 18 Jan, 2022.

Dr. Joanne Karam, Chairperson of the Nutrition Department, Dr. Wissam Ghash, Research Director, and alumni Carol Bouteen and Marwa Riman from the Nutrition Department, in collaboration with Dr. Mireille Serhan and Ms. Mary-Joe Makary from the Nutrition Department at the University of Balamand, published a new research. The study's goal was to assess adult adherence to the Mediterranean Diet during the COVID-19 outbreak and Lebanon's economic crisis.

The researchers found that there is an urgent need to raise national awareness among Lebanon's adult population in order to increase adherence to the Mediterranean diet. Furthermore, the findings of this study will aid in understanding nutritional behavior during the COVID-19 pandemic and the economic downturn, allowing public health officials to begin planning to save the threatened health-care system and preserve population wellness.

This study adds to the growing body of literature attempting to investigate the nutritional behavior of Lebanese citizens during the COVID-19 pandemic.
