MUBS Wins First Place in the XVII International Contest of Research at USPU- Russia

By MUBS Communications Dept., 26 Mar, 2022.

MUBS students Youssef Serhal, Eman Swaidan, and Mariam Fadel, under the supervision of Ms. Manal Ahmad, won first place in the XVII International Contest of Research at USPU- Russia, practice-oriented and creative projects in English among school and university students.

“Indigenous Cultures through Times” was the topic of the 2022 contest. Students explored the importance of indigenous people and minorities and how they impact cultures and the world. Their short video granted MUBS first place and distinguished Lebanon from other countries.

This is the second time Lebanon is represented in this international contest, which was organized by the Department of English Philology and ELT Methodology of the Institute of Foreign Languages at the Ural State Pedagogical University. The contest entailed practicing oriented and creative projects in English among school and university students from different countries.

Last year, MUBS won second place in the XVI 2021 contest, which was devoted to Yuri Gagarin. “The high dedication of our students at MUBS is what encouraged me to participate in this contest for the second time; they are quite brilliant ones,” said Manal Ahmad, English Language Program coordinator and instructor at MUBS. The aim of this contest was to give an opportunity to school and university students, teachers, and scientific consultants to value the use of the English language as a means of intercultural communication for successful participation in international events in any part of the world.

Students sent their project material to the organizing committee on February 10th, 2022, and the contest was held virtually after the organizing committee checked submissions, selected the participants, and assigned them into categories based on age group. The projects were evaluated by a professional jury that incorporated:

  • Professors of linguistic departments of the Institute of Foreign Languages of USPU and Linguistic Departments of other higher educational institutions in Yekaterinburg
  • Foreign language teachers whose students won first prizes in this and many other contests
  • Best foreign language teachers in the Yekaterinburg and the Sverdlovsk region
  • Representatives of foreign literature publishing houses
  • Participants and organizers of international projects
