COVIDiSTRESS Diverse Dataset on Psychological and Behavioral Outcomes One Year into the COVID-19 Pandemic

By MUBS Research Dept, May 2022.

Dr. Nael Alami, Provost at the Modern University for Business and Science (MUBS), and Mrs. Ramona Nasr, Acting Chairperson of the Public Health Department at MUBS, were among the authors of the article "COVIDiSTRESS Diverse Dataset on Psychological and Behavioral Outcomes One Year into the COVID-19 Pandemic," published by the journal Scientific Data from Springer Nature Publishing Group.

During the COVID-19 pandemic, the "COVIDiSTRESS" Consortium launched an open-access global survey to better understand and improve people's experiences with the disease. A year later, this line of research was extended by launching a new survey to address the pandemic's dynamic landscape. The goal of this survey was to address diversity, equity, and inclusion by collaborating with over 150 researchers from around the world who collected data in 48 languages and dialects from 137 countries. MUBS researchers represented the international consortium in the MENA region, collecting data from Lebanon, Egypt, Jordan, and Syria.

This seminal global dataset will enable cross-cultural research on psychological well-being and behaviors one year into the pandemic. It includes measures of stress, resilience, vaccine attitudes, trust in the government and scientists, compliance, information acquisition, and COVID-19 misperceptions. As a result, this dataset can be used by researchers and policymakers to inform research, decisions, and policy.

Therefore, the psychological and behavioral data obtained from this study will aid in more effectively preventing and responding to future epidemics by filling knowledge gaps in the field of health and medicine. After all, raising public awareness is critical in order to implement timely preventive measures.

This study is in alignment with the University's commitment to the UN Sustainable Development Goals, specifically SDG 1 (No Poverty), SDG 3 (Good Health and Well-being), SDG 9 (Industry, Innovation, and Infrastructure), SDG 10 (Reduced Inequality), and SDG 17 (Partnerships for the Goals).
