By Lujain Hamadeh, 2022.

Under the patronage and presence of Mr. Abbas Halabi, Minister of Education and Higher Education, the Modern University for Business and Science (MUBS) celebrated its 23rd anniversary and institutional accreditation at the Lancaster Plaza in Beirut. The ceremony symbolized MUBS's commitment to achieving excellence in higher education quality through institutional improvement, as well as greater sustainability and community service through its commitment to the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). It also celebrated MUBS’s EVALAG accreditation, which is a testament to the university's standing in higher education and a reward for the hard work of its faculty, staff, and stakeholders. The event began with a film about MUBS's history, which included testimonial interviews with deans and members of the Board of Trustees (BOT). Following that, distinguished figures delivered speeches to the audience, instilling pride in those who were looking forward to greater future accomplishments.

Dr. Nael Alami, Provost at MUBS, welcomed the audience before congratulating faculty members on their collaborative efforts to contribute to the university's recent progress, particularly on the EVALAG accreditation the university has achieved. The podium then welcomed the evening's first honorees, Dr. Fadi Fakhry Alame, President of the Arab Hospitals Federation and the Sahel Medical Group, and Ms. Deenah Fakhoury, Executive Director of the UN Global Compact Network Lebanon, whom MUBS wanted to honor for their immense contributions to institutional quality and sustainable development. Dr. Amr Ezzat Salama, Secretary General of the Association of Arab Universities, then delivered a speech commending the university's achievements in service and quality education. Mr. Abbas Halabi delivered the ceremony's closing speech, praising the quality-focused efforts on the Higher Education scene in Lebanon during such difficult times and discussing the incredible challenges faced by the country's education sector.

This event provided an opportunity for academia-concerned figures to connect and celebrate MUBS's commitment to adhering to the UN Compact SDGs and growing as a university for sustainability. Part of MUBS's sustainability strategy also included mobilizing its education center in Jal el Dib, which offers life-long learning opportunities for professionals and adult learners through certificate programs and specialized diplomas. Consequently, MUBS continues to strive for excellence and social development in order to realize the great potential of its learners, regardless of their identities, religious beliefs, or political backgrounds. It also anticipates further advancements in educational quality and excellence in upscale education delivery modes across Lebanon.

This ceremony affirms the university's commitment to UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDG), specifically SDG 4 (Quality education), SDG 10 (Reduced Inequality), SDG 16 (Peace, Justice, and Strong Institutions), and SDG 17 (Partnerships for the goals).
